Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that is undetectable without the assistance of testing. Since radon comes from the ground, any home can be affected by dangerous radon levels at any time. Radon can pose serious health risks if left untreated, so when you have unhealthy levels of radon in your home, you need effective solutions that will keep you and your loved ones safe.
Here are our five steps to radon mitigation:
- Testing – We first need to determine the radon levels in your home to evaluate the next steps. We test the lowest livable areas of your home, as they will have the highest concentrations of radon. We may do a short-term test to start, which measures radon levels over a few days. If high levels of radon are detected, we may follow up with long-term tests, which extend over several months.
- Mitigation assessment – The next step is to determine the biggest access points for radon entering your home. Radon can penetrate through flooring and walls, but ventilation and gaps in the home’s structure can allow radon access as well. Our expert team will evaluate your property to develop a radon mitigation plan.
- Mitigation system implementation – Radon mitigation systems will depend on the house structure and radon levels. We will use the sub-slab depressurization, by means of a mitigation fan and piping, to pull radon from under your home and discharge it back outside.
- Post-mitigation system testing – After the radon mitigation system is in place, we’ll follow up with further testing to ensure your home maintains safe levels of radon.
- Ongoing evaluations – Radon testing should be done every two years to maintain an ongoing log of radon levels in your home.
